‘Ravenmark: Scourge of Estellion’ – By Witching Hour Studios
by BOP Guest Reviewer, Chad Adams
If you are a fan of Tactical war gaming, I suggest you try out Witching Hour’s premier game ‘Ravenmark”.
While not exactly an iOS board game, Ravenmark sure plays like one. In ‘Ravenmark’ you command an army of four different types of units, Infantry, Pikes, Archers and Calvary. Units can have their own sub abilities; however, when combined into lines of two or three they gain special combat bonuses (at the cost of maneuverability).
This game looks great and plays well. It has an engaging story, a large cast of characters, and the artwork and
music are fantastic. I also like how well it uses icons to make playing easier on the iPhones small screens. It is a deep game and will take some learning and experimenting to be successful.
‘Ravenmark’ is a great game but not with out flaws. For example, I don’t understand how archers can successfully fire at an enemy unit blocked by a building or another unit. Worst of all, there is no saving in the middle of battle. I have heard that the developers plan on fixing this; but until then, expect to sit and finish an entire battle or you will have to start all over.
Despite it’s shortcoming, ‘Ravenmark’ is one of the best tactical games in the app store.
